Improvements in dangerous goods transport across the Baltic Sea

Building on many years of expertise in handling dangerous goods, Scandlines has now significantly strengthened its dangerous goods transport offering.

With the introduction of the new freight-only ferry The Baltic Whale, operating on the Rødby–Puttgarden route from 2026, customers can now benefit from increased capacity, more frequent departures, and the ability to transport additional dangerous goods classes that were previously restricted.

What this means for you:

  • More flexibility for dangerous goods
    • Transport a wider range of dangerous goods with the open deck configuration
  • Reliable and frequent departures
    • Spend minimal time waiting at the port with departures every 2 hours.
    • Use the 45-minute crossing as part of the driver’s rest period.
  • Shorter route with lower fuel costs
    • Avoid detours across Denmark and save 150+ km on the road

Routes and daily departures

The Baltic Whale carries nearly all DG classes. All our ferries carry DG classes without passenger restrictions.
